Colwall won by 38 runs
2nd 11 129 all out : Colwall 167 for 2
Bristol Phoenix 2nds unbeaten record in the 35 over format of the game came to an end in a friendly on bank holiday Monday at Chipping Sodbury. This game marked the last appearance of captain George Boston who is moving to Cumbria to begin married life as the wife of a navy officer. The club, players and supporters extend their good wishes for the future and thank her for her efforts. Barrow-in-Furness gain is Phoenix loss but hopefully she will return when the duty period is over. Colwall made the journey from the Herefordshire and won the toss on a damp wicket. Openers Kate Trounsen and Bex Fortnam took early advantage of wayward Phoenix bowling and started to accumulate runs at 5 per over, both batsman were adept at the pull and hook shot, Phoenix kept bowling to their strengths. The pair added 104 runs for the first wicket 18 overs before Jo Cull in her second spell removed captain Fortnam for 38, excellently caught in the cover by Sophie Williams off a full blooded cover drive. Kate Farmer added a quick fire 19 to keep the momentum going before coming a victim of Holly Hill caught at point by Naomi Forecast for 19, this being the last wicket Phoenix were to take on the day, as the visitors innings closed on 167 for the loss of only two wickets, opener Trousen carrying her bat for an excellent 91. Phoenix in reply were always up with the required rate but loss wickets at crucial moments at one point being 49 for 3 wickets. Danika Dyer and Holly Hill steadied the innings and kept Phoenix in the hunt, Dyer was the first to go caught at deep square leg by Trounsen off the bowling of Leah Campbell for 26, Hill followed shortly after wards bowled for a very good 35. In the end the chase became to big a target to achieve and Phoenix were dismissed for 129. Losing by 38 runs.

First 11 vs Plympton on August 21, 2011
Phorniz won by 6 wickets
First 11 113 for 4 : Plympton 112 all out
Bristol Phoenix CC completed the double over league rivals Plympton on Sunday with a healthy 6 wicket win to secure the Women’s South West league Championship for 2011 and earn the right to play off for a place in the Women’s National Premier League next season.
Plympton elected to bat first and, apart from a classy 45 from Amara Carr, failed to cope with Phoenix’s varied and accurate attack as they were bowled out for just 112 in 37 overs. Spinners Chloe Davis (3 for 13), Carys Allen (2 for 13) and Fi Morris (2 for 17) did most of the damage, with seamer Alex Macdonald (2 for 23) taking vital early wickets.
In reply, the reliable openers Emily Waldron (14) and Fi Morris (35) laid another solid platform against some very accurate Plympton bowling, but two runs outs set the momentum of the innings back. However, Alex Macdonald, with a subdued, but unbeaten 20 saw Phoenix home with 8 overs and 6 wickets to spare.
Phoenix thus maintained their unbeaten record and enter the end of season play offs with confidence

2nd 11 vs Brompton Ralph on August 14, 2011
Bristol Phoenix won by 9 wickets
2nd 11 56 for 3 : Brompton Ralph 55 all out
Fielding a second team which consisted of all the players being below the age of fifteen, the exception being Captain George Boston, this youthful outfit recorded a nine wicket win home victory over their visitors from Somerset in the AC Moles Women's league. Brompton won the toss and elected to bat, and early as the first over were to be victims of Phoenix's sharp fielding, as a smart stop at square leg by Zoe Cullum saw the non striking bat out of her ground a quick return to the bowler saw the visitors one wicket down without a run on the board, this was to the first of two impressive run outs by the ever alert Cullum. The home sides opening attack soon made in roads in to the Brompton batting as Harri Harris bowled tightly without taking wickets, but her partner Naomi Forecast struck on several occasions to take 4 wickets for the loss of 12 runs from seven overs. Forecast being assisted by some excellent catching by captain George Boston which including a superb one handed effort at mid off. It was Boston who put Brompton to the sword as her 3 wickets for 14 runs saw the visitors bowled out for only 55 runs. In reply Phoenix reached their victory within 12 overs, for the loss of only one wicket, that being wicket keeper batsman Danika Dyer bowled for 11, it was left to the ever improving Gemma Pate with 15 not out and Abi Lawrence with the same undefeated score to take the Phoenix to victory and a double over the Brompton Ralph side.

2nd 11 vs Wells on July 31, 2011
Bristol Phoenix won by 109 runs
2nd 11 177 for 6 : Wells 68 all out
Bristol Phoenix 2nd II travelled to the smallest city in England to play Wells on Sunday and in the AC Moles Somerset Women's league and returned home victors by the margin of 109 runs. On winning the toss Wells had no hesitation in asking the Phoenix to bat on a green wicket, openers Zoe Cullum and Carys Allen got the visitors off to a solid start against the Wells opening attack of Rachel Richards and Liz McConnell, Cullum was the first to go with the score on 19, which her contribution was 12 runs, Jo Cull came to the crease and kept the momentum going while Allen played the supporting watchful role. Cull departed bowled Richards for 17 which saw the start of mini collapse as Phoenix slumped from 41 - 2 to 52 for 5. Fortunately Allen kept her head while others were losing theirs and then found a useful partner in Gemma Pate, this pair added 74 runs for the sixth wicket in 10 overs with some excellent running and punishment of the bad ball. Pate departed for a very good 27, Holly Hill was also the perfect ally for Allen with an undefeated 19 not out. Carys Allan began to cut loose as the innings came to a conclusion with some excellent shots all round the wicket, this enabled Phoenix to post a score of 177 for 6 wickets, Allen carrying her bat for a well deserved score of 54 not out. In reply Wells were shot out for 68 as first change bowlers Holly Hill and captain George Boston cut through the home side's middle order, both bowlers were on hat tricks at times in their spell but were denied the feat. Boston took 3 wickets for 12 runs and Hill capping a fine all round display with 2 wickets for 15 runs. Liz McConnell was the only Wells bat to master the Phoenix attack with a resolute 24 runs. The home late order bats hung around but Allen with her off spin finished the job off with two wickets and Phoenix were able to claim another league victory in yet another solid and useful all performance from the team.

2nd 11 vs Minehead on July 24, 2011
won by 5 wickets
2nd 11 89-5 : Minehead 86 all out
Bristol Phoenix's form in the AC Moles Somerset Women's league continued with a 5 wicket home victory over Minehead on Sunday, the visitors making the long trip to Chipping Sodbury. The visitors won the toss and electing to bat were given a solid start from openers Hannah Sparkes and captain Carol Maltravers, the opening pair adding 45 runs in a 10 over opening partnership, Maltravers contributing 11 runs, was the first to go being well stumped by wicket keeper Laura Marshall off the bowling of Alex Macdonald. The in form Helen Binding was the next to go, being Macdonald's second victim with 10 runs with the score 69. Minehead's hopes of decent score were dashed as the innings failed to gather any further momentum, the impressive Sparkes was well caught by a sharply taken catch by Macdonald off the bowling of Naomi Forecast for a excellent 48. Eventually the visitors were all out for 86, with keeper Marshall claiming her second stumping to cap a fine display behind the stumps, Sidhra Khan and Naomi Forecast sharing 3 wickets apiece being well supported in the home bowling attack by Emily Waldron and Alex Macdonald. In the attempt to close in on the target of 87, the Phoenix innings was given a solid start by Laura Marshall and Lauren Rowles against some tight bowling, such was the quality of the bowling that the half century partnership did not come until the 16 over. Marshall was dismissed leg before wicket for 15 runs. This saw the start of a mini collapse as Phoenix stuttered towards victory. In a tense finish Sophie Williams 9 not out and Alex Macdonald also with 9 not out saw Phoenix home with 3 balls to spare, the 5 wickets in hand did not reflect the margin of victory as Phoenix were made to work hard for their victory. Hannah Sparkes capped a fine all round display for the Minehead side with 4 wickets for 17 runs.

Plympton vs First 11 on July 10, 2011
Phoenix won by 7 wickets
Plympton 157 for 9 : First 11 158 for 3
In the latest match between the two leading teams in the South West League, Phoenix travelled to Plympton to inflict a heavy 7 wicket defeat and so consolidate their position at the head of the league.
On a damp pitch, Plympton were invited to bat and started confidently and, with Amara Carr playing her favourite shots to the leg side, compiled a solid opening partnership of 56. It took a superb run out from Fi Morris with a direct hit for Phoenix to take their first wicket, but the Plympton batters continued to look comfortable.
With the score continuing to mount steadily and with wickets in hand, Plympton were threatening to post a total near 200, when Carr was superbly caught in the deep by a diving Abi Evans for 60. Finally, the Phoenix bowlers got a foothold in the game and with spinners Carys Allen (3 for30) and Chloe Davis (2 for 20) now taking wickets regularly, and backed up by an improved fielding performance, Plympton’s innings closed on 157 for 8.
Phoenix made a cautious start, but two quick wickets saw both openers dismissed before the score had reached 25. However, Charlie Walker and Abi Evans proceeded to settle in and slowly accelerated the scoring with an error free stand of 118, with both players passing fifty. Eventually Evans was dismissed for 51, but Walker remained to the end with an immaculate unbeaten 70, to guide Phoenix home by 7 wickets with 2 overs to spare.

Frampton Cotterell vs Under 15 on June 29, 2011
Phoenix won by 65 runs
Frampton Cotterell 57 all out : Under 15 122 for 5
Another excellent all round performance by Phoenix saw them romp home by 65 runs in their final game of the Bristol Youth League season and secure second spot in their Divisional table.
Batting first, Phoenix struugled to make much heady way against some good bowling from Tom Parker (3 for 17), but Amelia Andrew transformed the innings with a typically brisk and hard hitting 35, before retiring under the league rules.
Abi Lawrence (20 not out)and Grace Benson (11)kept up the batting momentum, to help post a very competitive total of 122 for 5.
The Frampton innings, missing several key players, never really got going against some accurate early bowling from Jo Cull and Zoe Cullum. The introduction of Laura Sutton (3 for 15) and Abi Lawrence (3 for 11) into the attack saw wickets fall rapidly, allowing Phoenix to wrap up a convincing win by 65 runs.

Frenchay Tigers vs Under 13B on June 28, 2011
BPCC won by 7 wkts
Frenchay Tigers 120 all out : Under 13B 122 for 3
After the match against Hambrook it was concluded that we had to do better in all areas especially the bowling. This came about when captain Naomi Forecast, who usually keeps wicket opened the bowling going for 1 run in her first over & then taking a three wicket maiden in her second. Stand in keeper for the very first time was Sophie Marshall who gave a very good performance & soon learnt that the gloves were not just to keep the hands warm & took a catch off Naomi's aggresive bowling! Frenchay managed to put up some resistance and scored at a steady rate and the Naomi had a second spell, this time she had a two wicket maiden & finished with very fine figures of 3.2 overs 2 maidens 5 runs 5 wkts. Frenchay finished with 120 all out. This was a good total to chase especially as we struggled the night before with the bat, opener Eloise Underhill soon had to retire on 26 after hitting 5 x 4's. Not before running out Daisy Smith for 1 - here we go again. Naomi was next in & she also hit 5 x 4's & had to retire on 26. Zoe Cullum then came to the crease & also set about going home early as soon as poosible - Waterllo Road or something! Zoe hit out from ball one and played some fine shots all around the ground. With the victory in sight & with wickets in hand Zoe hit one big shot too many & was caught at long off by a very fine catch scoring 20. As usual extras was the top scorer and Phoenix passed the required 120 in 13 overs, this was an impressive performance by all & certainly made up for the dissapointment of the previous night. Our last BYCL match is against Thornbury Blue at TCC this Friday & all support would be welcome, come along & watch the girls in action.

Hambrook U11 vs Under 13B on June 27, 2011
Hambrook won by 6 wkts
Hambrook U11 144 : Under 13B 108
This was our first BYCL match for some time due to weather & other cancellations. We had 10 players & two U11's in Molly Thomas & Tabitha Summerfield making her full hard ball debut. Having put Hambrook into bat the girls got off to a good start by taking two wickets in the first two overs. Tabitha contributed to the second wicket with a fine piece of fielding & throwing the ball to the non strikers end to run out the batsman, welcome to cricket! It then went down hill very fast, Hambrook dispatched the ball to the boundary with ease and quickly had the scoreboard up to over 100 runs before the next wicket fell. This was always going to be a tall order for our girls to chase down & was made harder when Imogen Lydford was run out for 1 in the first over. Up stepped in form captain Naomi Forecast - having to retire on 25 in her previous two matches, only to be bowled first ball! Zoe Cullum showed some resistance & had to retire on 25, the way we were going it would not be long before she would be able to return to the crease - under the league rules. We continued to lose wickets at a steady rate until Molly Thomas & Tabitha Summerfield came together, the youngest pair & Tabi not ever played league cricket before, stood fast & began to gain confidence & score runs. The pair stayed in to the end putting on 54 runs - not all off the bat but none the less vital runs. Abi was eventually run out on the last ball - under my instruction - she'll not do that again! BPCC ended up with 108 for 7, which was pretty good going concidering. Hopefully this was one to learn from & so to the next game - frenchay U11's. The girls managed to take another wicket before the boys finished on 144 for 4 after 20 overs.

Taunton Griffins vs First 11 on June 25, 2011
Phoenix won by 4 runs
Taunton Griffins 176 for 5 : First 11 180 for 3
Bristol Phoenix CC maintained their unbeaten record and position at the top of the South West League with the narrowest of wins against Taunton Griffins on Sunday.
Batting first in a match reduced to 30 overs a side, to enable both sides to watch the T20 women’s international between Australia and New Zealand, Phoenix’s innings was dominated by a 111 run partnership between Fi Morris and skipper for the day Charlie Walker. Making the most of the big playing surface, they dominated the Griffin’s bowling in setting a formidable total of 180 for 3, thereby maximum batting points. Fi Morris batted the whole innings for 76 not out, whilst Charlie Walker hit 46.
Needing a tight opening spell of bowling to keep control of the match, Phoenix delivered the reverse, allowing Griffin’s international Caroline Atkins to score runs at will. Even Fi Morris’s two wickets in two balls did little to slow the run rate, as Griffins chased down the Phoenix total with little risk. Requiring just 45 runs from the last 7 overs, and with Atkins in full flow and nearing her century, Phoenix finally recognised that they were in a match. Carys Allen snapped up two wickets as Griffins finally faltered, now requiring 14 runs from the final over. Alex Macdonald then bowled her best over of the match, well supported by now terrier like fielding, to steer Phoenix home by just 4 runs.
Caroline Atkins ended unbeaten on 112( with 17 fours) and her innings, taken together with the international cricket on display before the match, illustrated the standards that Phoenix need to move towards if they wish to progress as a club in the women’s game.

Chipping Sodbury vs Under 15 on June 15, 2011
Phoenix won by 23 runs
Chipping Sodbury 130 for 5 : Under 15 153 for 4
Phoenix's Under 15's took advantage of a short boundary and fast outfield at Chipping Sodbury to rack up their highest score of the season, posting 153 for 4 from their 20 overs.
Jo Cull (32), Abi Lawrence (34) and Amelia Andrew (37 retired) all regularly peppered the boundary, with a combined tally of 17 fours and a flat six that threatened to demolsh the pavilion. The Sodbury bowlers kept to their task, with Edwards (2 for 19) the pick.
Grace Benson (1 for 7) struck an early blow with the ball, but Cooper, Ross and Holt all emulated the earlier batting with regular boundary hits. It took a superb four over spell of bowling by Zoe Cullum (1 for 14) to check the run rate and with skipper Jo Cull (2 for 12) taking vital wickets the the end of the Sodbury innings, Phoenix managed to hold on to win an entertaining game by 23 runs.

Thornbury vs Under 13A on June 13, 2011
Thornbury won by 40 runs
Thornbury 117 for 4 : Under 13A 77 for7
Phoenix's young Under 13's took on the might of the all conquering Thornbury side, but were unable to dent their unbeaten record, going down by 40 runs, despite a good all round batting and bowling performance.
Thornbury batted first and with Sam Williams scoring an unbeaten 26, were always scoring freely. Abi Paton (2 for 19), with two wickets in two balls, set the Thorbnbury innings back, but could not prevent them setting a total of 117 for 4. Kate Morgans (1 for 19) took the other wicket to fall to the bowlers.
In reply, Tessa Wheatley (16 retired not out) and Bronwen Jones (16) provided an decent impetus to the Phoenix innings, but a steady fall of wickets kept the run rate below that required, witht he result that Phoenix fell 40 runs short, closing on 77 for 7.

Old Down vs Under 13A on June 7, 2011
Phoenix won by 57 runs
Old Down 63 for 5 : Under 13A 120 for 3
Bristol Phoenix's Under 13A team turned in their best all round performance of the season with a convincing win by 57 runs against Old Down.
Batting first, openers Abi Paton and Laura Fairman made a solid start, livened up with some sharp/sucicidal running. The loss of a couple of wickets, both bowled, made little difference to the accumulation of runs, before Abi Paton had to retire under the rules, unbeaten on 25, her highest ever score.
The innings was finished off in style by skipper Emily Wilson (15 not out) and Tessa Wheatley (19 not out), who added 50 unbeaten runs in the last 7 overs, to enable Phoenix to post a total of 120 for 3, their best score of the year so far.
Old Down's youthful team found runs hard to come by against some very straight bowling by the eight bowler Phoenix attack. Megan Short, with three overs of well flighted off spin, was the pick of the bowlers, whilst Millie Whetton took her first hard ball wicket.
However, Old Down's batters kept working hard to score runs and finished on 63 for 5, to leave Phoenix winners by 57 runs.

Phoenix win by 49 runs
Brompton Ralph 114 - 6 : 2nd 11 163 - 6
Bristol Phoenix II made the long trip to Brompton Ralph on Sunday and recorded their first win in the Somerset league. After winning the toss at the picturesque ground nestling on the edge of the Quantocks, Phoenix elected to bat and were given a solid start as openers Naomi Forecast and Carys Allen put on 57 for the first wicket, before Forecast was bowled for 23, the rest of the innings belonged to Allen as she set her stall to bat through the allotted 30 overs, it was her patient 72 not out that was the backbone of Phoenix's score of 163, useful support came from Holly Hill with 26, this pair provided the acceleration needed at the end of the innings. Brompton's useful attack of the Williams sisters and Burston shared the 6 wickets to fall with two a piece. In reply the home side got a quick start and were up with the pace of runs required with Ivy Williams playing some good strokes against the Phoenix attack, the introduction of Holly Hill and off spinner Carys Allen applied the brakes aided by some tight ground fielding, the stranglehold was carried on by skipper George Boston and making a welcome return from long term injury - Lottie Maiden. Boston removed the dangerous Ivy Williams as Abi Lawrence took an excellent catch. In the end Brompton could not push the run rate a long and their innings closed at 114 - 6 wickets. Phoenix claiming their victory in a game that provided a good test of their cricketing abilities for the experienced and those playing their first games to senior cricket.

Bournemouth vs First 11 on May 22, 2011
Phoenix won by 244 runs
Bournemouth 41 : First 11 285 for5
Phoenix kept their position at the top of the South West League with an emphatic win at Bournemouth on Sunday.
Batting first in windy conditions, openers Emily Waldron and Fi Morris made a solid start, taking the score to 38 before Waldron was bowled for 20. Two more quick wickets fell to leave Phoenix stuttering at 58 for 3, but this merely allowed Abby Evans and Alex Macdonald to compile a classy and truly dominant partnership of 210. Rebuilding the innings at first, both batters then moved through the gears, picking up runs at will and then accelerating the scoring perfectly as the innings came to a close.
Both passed their centuries in the closing overs before falling in the pursuit of quick runs, Evans finishing on 101 (7 fours and a six) and Macdonald on 104 (14 fours and a six), as Phoenix posted an impregnable 285 for 5 in 45 overs.
Bournemouth lost a wicket first ball to Sam Brazier, but then steadied the ship with a decent stand of 29, before spinners Fi Morris and Chloe Davis created havoc in the Bournemouth batting ranks, as the home side crumpled to 41 all out. Off spinner Morris, with 5 for 6, and leg spinner Davis, with 3 for 5, proving virtually unplayable, as Phoenix picked up maximum league points.

Weston-Super- Mare vs 2nd 11 on May 22, 2011
Weston Super- Mare won by 7 wickets
Weston-Super- Mare 83 - 3 : 2nd 11 82 all out
Phoenix second team entry in to the Somerset Women's cricket league resulted in a seven wicket defeat at Weston-super-Mare in their first fixture. George Boston won the toss and elected to bat, her decision seemed to be the correct one as openers Hannah Thompson and Abi Williams got the visitors off to a flying start as they amassed 25 runs in the first two overs of the game. However Weston opening bowler Roxy Newman in her second over took a triple wicket maiden including a hat trick to rip the heart out of the Phoenix top order. Captain Boston steadied the innings with opener Thompson, Thompson eventually departed for a useful 23. Boston found a useful partner in Danika Dyer as the captain tried to get the rest of the team to support her, a further set back occurred when Dyer was dismissed for 10. Boston being last man out for a creditable 20 and Phoenix innings closed on 82. The impressive Newman finishing with 4 -18, and slow bowler Emma Whitehead also took 4 wickets conceding only 20 runs. Despite some tight bowling from Harri Harris and Danika Dyer they were unable to take early wickets and apply any pressure on the homes sides bats, Hannah Thompson took an excellent close catch to dismiss Alice Wiseman for 9 off Emily Wilson, this brought Emma Whitehead to the wicket and in partnership with opener Lucy Tildman these two took Weston within reach of victory. Tildman became Wilson's second victim in an impressive spell of bowling claiming 2 -14 runs. Despite any excellent run out from Zoe Cullum and keeper Forecast to dismissed Roxy Newman for 2, Weston reached victory in 17 overs for the loss of three wickets. Phoenix side was a very youthful outfit, this being the first senior game for several of the players and credit must be given for their attitude and competitive spirit the played the game in, it was not a easy victory for Weston.

Under 13B 122 for 7 : Hanham U11 117 for 7
This was the first league game of the season for both teams which, with an early start and overnight rain, led to some uncertainty. Phoenix batted first and made a good start with Eloise Underwood hitting the ball around confidently reaching 16 before being caught.. In the middle order Naomi Forecast and Ellie Holey both retired when they passed 25 runs helping the team reach a very good total of 122 loosing seven wickets. Phoenix bowled well with the pick of the bowlers being Zoe Cullum with 4-0-27-2 and Emma Davis, who had to retire with a nasty injury, with 2-0-6-0. Hanham were restricted to 117. All in all this was a good first match, and a close win, but with some learning opportunities especially in regard to the fielding.

Phoenix won by 140 runs
First 11 257 for 8 : Taunton Griffins 117 all out
Phoenix started their campaign in the South West League with a comfortable win against Taunton Griffins by 140 runs on Sunday.
A 51 run opening partnership between Emily Waldron and Fi Morris set Phoenix on their way and with the middle order of Alex Macdonald and Sam Brazier adding a brisk partnership of 76 in just 10 overs, Phoenix were able to post a healthy total of 257 for 8 in their 45 overs. Waldron (42), Macdonald (57) and Brazier (43) were the main run scorers.

Coalpit Heath 106 for 3 : Under 15 140 for 0
Bristol Phoenix's Under 15's started their season with a comfortable win in the first round of the Cup against Coalpit Heath. Batting first, Phoenix openers Jo Cull and Naomi Forecast batted cautiously against some accurate Heath bowling, mustering just 10 runs in the first 6 overs. The boundaries then flowed as both batters' confidence rose and the scoring rate accelerated. Jo Cull retired unde the new league rules on 38 and this allowed Amelia Andrew in to blast another unbeaten 38 from just 16 deliveries, with eight fours and a six - her first ever! A total of 140 without losing a wicket looked impressive but S Watson of Heath was soon striking the ball well, as the reply raced to 58 from 10 overs. His retirement on 36 slowed the Heath run rate considerably, allowing Annie Hodgson (in her first ever game of cricket) to bowl Cook for 14 and Laura Sutton to bowl Wiltshire for 2, as Heath's reply fell 36 runs short. So a winning start for a very inexperienced Phoenix team.
